Finally, a perfect week. Knowing that the following week is a rest week, I wanted to put in the extra effort and make sure I nailed every workout.
Friday was a scheduled rest day. I made the most of it by going over to Adena's place with Mrs. LoTC for drinks. Being the anti-social type, I dreaded going. I know that everyone loves having Mrs. LoTC around because she's just so awesomely fun to be around. She's always so positive and she has that flirting laugh of hers! So for me to go with Mrs. LoTC, I'm just a necessary evil that everyone has to put up with. In the end, I was glad I went. It was a good time, Adena took it easy on me. I met some crazy figure competitor chick that made Ironman look like a walk in the park. It was interesting listening to the dieting and training regiment needed to be a figure competitor. Insane stuff! That Tawnya gurl could do anything she put her mind to, she is that disciplined!

On Saturday I looked up the race course for the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series in Dundas Valley. We did the entire 'Sport' course and a few extra kilometers of the Enduro course. Knowing this was the last run before a rest week, I pushed a little harder than usual. I didn't go any faster, I just took less breaks. Or at least it felt that way. I compared my time to the race results of this year's competitors and to my non-amazement - I would finish absolute dead last. It's good to know I suck that bad though - when you're at the bottom, the only way to go is up! :) It can only get better from here.
Trail to love |
Sunday it took alot of energy to get out the door for a mountain bike ride. I waited until the absolute last minute to go. I knew I wanted to ride, but the effort required to get all the gear together for cold weather riding is a pain. I watched a quick Ironman Motivation video and that's all it took to get me up off my ass and out the door. A bit cooler out this day, but sunny and the trails were dry! I went to Hilton falls which is a great upper body workout since it is so technical with the jagged rocks and all. I felt good right off the start, however as I approached a tall deadfall tree I went to jump it and BAM I wound up on my face. I went over the bars on the very first obstacle. Well I hope this wasn't an indication of how the rest of the ride will go. This tree was just warm-up and I'm already tango'ing with potential injury. Anyhow, it took a good 20 minutes to get my grove back and the rest of the ride went reasonably smooth. At the end of the ride I discoverd that my Camelback system has a lockout valve to stop it from dripping on my leg. Wow, I've had this thing for a few years now and just figured out what the yellow tab on the nipple was for. I feel kinda dumb.

John we are all glad you came with Fran, especially the dog. :-) The trails look fun but far too dangerous for me.
