I QUIT.

I just can't do it anymore. I had a dream, I set my goals and I have tried to follow my plan. As much as I wanted the dream to come true, I just can't do it right now.

I would like to thank everyone for being so supportive this last while. Ever since I started this epic journey, I've met some really wonderful people in this community. They inspired me to challenge myself, set lofty goals and commit to unrelenting plans. I've given it a good shot, probably not my best effort, but certainly tried very hard. It just wasn't meant to be.

Now that I have thrown in the towel, what is in store for me next?

Pizza. Lots of it. Probably beer. Definitely a slice of pumpkin pie!

I HEREBY OFFICIALY QUIT the 21 Day challenge to eat healthy.

I'm still doing Ironman silly, what did you think I meant?!
So when I set out on this spur of the moment DUMB IDEA, I declared a few seemingly minor exceptions to the rules. The 21-day challenge was originally thought up by The Devil and seemed like a simple task. Eat healthy, No beer. Well I had to reserve a couple days for beer consumption due to peer pressure at xmas partys. This seemed harmless, and I also took the liberty of declaring 'Pizza' as a healthy meal. I can't remember a single week where I haven't had a pizza at LEAST once. I need my pizza.
The challenge started and a few pizza's later I was heckled a bit by the locals. If I am eating pizza, is that cheating? Should I be disqualified? Should I be allowed to make such an exception?
I quickly researched the nutritional value of pizza and found some supporting evidence for allowing me to continue, but truth be told the fat content and high calories gave me pause.
That has been eating away at the back of my mind the last few days. The end came after the wife brought home pizza again last night. It wasn't the healthy kind either. I ate till I couldn't eat no more.

So being honest with myself, I have come to the conclusion that beer and pizza should NOT be an exception to the rules no matter what. Having said that, I choose to defer my participation to the new year. This will give me time to mentally prepare for the challenge. No Pizza? This may kill me, but the rules must apply the same to me as they do others. I can do this.
Just not until the new year.
Actually an interesting thing happened this morning. After last night's pizza binge, I stepped on the scale and weighed in the lightest I have been in 15 years. I am telling you, pizza works for me! I think I've been borderline starving myself for so long that if I give my body a surge of calories, it stops trying to conserve energy or store some reserves. It just goes on a burning spree and I lose weight. That's my theory anyhow. :)

Training - Today is a much needed rest day!

Blog - Ignore the ugly colors, it is under construction and I am still not happy with the results. I'll let you know when I finally figure out a final look for it. Then I'll ask for opinions. :)

  1. HA! Was wondering what you were "quitting!"

Pizza and beer are two of the many main food groups in a triathlete's diet. Why deny yourself these calorie dense foods?

  3. 21 days of nothing, but healthy eating? Sounded a little crazy! Lets have 21 days of moderation with the occasional splurge :-) Did I mention really healthy eating isn't my strength?

  4. This is why I'm doing the 30 day challenge, NOT the 21 day challenge. New year will be the perfect time to get on the food bandwagon.

Blog is looking really good!! I meant to email you about my speedometer, but time got away from me this weekend and it's still busted.

  5. Oh maybe it was Bryan that came up with the 21 day and it was you that came up with 30 day?
Either way, I blame them both on you. Just cuz I can.

Email me the details of the speedo and I'll see if it is what I think it is. I will read your email, but only if you convince Daryl to rightfully return the king(me) to the top of his bloglist! :)
